Best Graduation Ever!

On Wednesday the 12th of  December the year 6s had their graduation. Brandon and Ebenezer welcomed us into the hall. When we got into the hall Whaea Sose started to say a speech. After her speech she asked Margaret from Pataka to come and say a speech about the new hall mural. Then it was time for her to hand out the trophy for the best art in Russell School and it was for Colleen. Next we sang 'Hall a fame', our teacher said it was the best we had ever done it.Then it was time for the next trophy. After that we sang some of our Russell School songs. Then it was time for more trophies. Do you know what I was scared of ? I was scared when Ben and I went to say our speech because Ben had a longer speech then me and I had a short speech that was so EMBRACING!!! But I was still proud of myself and Ben because we did a great job and we were supported by our classmates. We finished by doing the loudest haka you ever heard.

New H.E.A.R.T mural

The Human Rights Commission has helped Russell School create it's new H.E.A.R.T mural.

In Room 9 we made our own designs with tape for the hall mural. First we got a circle, then we put painters green tape on the circles for patterns. After that we put on our old t-shirts because there was acrylic paint to paint the circles. . By Vinley

Road Patrols trip

On the 6th of December the road petrolers went to the Aquatic Center to thank them for their hard work. First we went to the pools, we got changed and then went for a swim. But when Molly and I got in the pool a man told us we can`t swim in singlets. He said we can go and get a shirt from the counter, but the shirts were a dollar each! So we were stuck we had no money on us, we asked Kaiona and he gave us 2 dollars to hire the t shirts. We went in the pools and we were about to go to the slide but it said SLIDE CLOSED. After that we went to play some games. We played basketball.A boy was going to throw the ball to the teacher, but I caught the ball and we got a goal! The funniest thing was when I defended a teacher that was taller then me.

Visit from Mrs & Mr Wilcox and their friend Shackleton Bear

Russell Dog meets Shackleton Bear
Katoa & Shackleton listening
Mrs Wilcox and Shackleton Bear came to Room 9 to teach us about their trip to Antarctica.
They had a Hawaiian Party when it was a cold day. They must have been brave because if it was us we would have kept our jackets on.

You have to wear lots of layers in the snow

Shackleton now thinks he's a polar bear. He had a goal to be the first bear to go to the South Pole.

He taught us not to give up on our goals.

Making Gluey Gloop

The emerald nine reading group did a great job as leaders teaching others how to make gloop.

It was fun making it because our hands got sticky.
This term we've have been learning colour theory. We had to mix food colouring in gloop. Can you see what colour kowhai and ma made?

Armistice Week

Armistice Day Art
The Raising Poppies

Red blood on Flanders Field
Blood, the grass that is green
Proud of people who fought for New Zealand
Blood red flowers, sad and mad the same
People's sons and fathers didn't return home
That is a poppy.

Michael Fowler Center

On Thursday at 11.30am room 9 and room 6 went to the Michael Fowler Center to listen to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. First we waited for the bus to came. When the bus came we had to find a partner and sit down on a seat in the bus. Then we drove off to Wellington. When we got there we went inside the Michael Fowler Center and had our morning tea in the foyer. Next Miss Forster asked if anyone needed to go to the toilet. After that we went up stairs and into the stage and that was when they started playing the music. The music was very good because it was soothing like a lullaby. It made me go to sleep. Ben and Danny had to wake me up. I will always remember that it's not really boring watching the N.Z.S.O.

Earthquake practice

Room 9 has been practicing what to do in an earthquake stop, drop, cover and hold. If the bell
rings we all have to get under our desks, we have to wait until it stops and then we all go outside. But we have to be careful of the windows because they may crack.

Our amazing silde shows

Room 9 has been learning about I.C.T. We have been doing slide shows for graduation on power point. We have been learning how to crop a picture, copy a picture and past it onto power point. We have been designing our slide show with amazing colour. We had to put six pictures of us when we were at Russell School, when we started from year 1 to year 6. When I looked at the pictures i looked very young and small.

The Wellington Lions

On Friday the 14th of September the Wellington Lions came to our School. Leo the lion was the king of teaching us how to roar. Solomono is a kind man, he is a Tokelauan and he was friendly to us. Eric told us he wanted to be an All Black when he was a little kid. They wanted to teach us about line outs when you play rugby. Do you know how I felt? I felt happy when the Wellington Lions came. It was funny how they lifted the lion up.

keeping our selves safe

I am writing about keeping our selves safe. We have been learning about secrets, bribes and tricks. Being a S.S.T.A.R. means Stop, Stand, Think, Act  and Report.
We have been watching skits on the interactive whiteboard. We like doing realistic acting with our class. We had clear voices, good emotions and use our whole stage space. By Jacinta.

Daffodil Day

Yesterday and today we had Daffodil day.We wore green and yellow and brought some money to fund raise for the Cancer Society.
The cancer society use the money to buy more medicine and better machines.
We felt sad when people die so we try to help and we felt happy when people live. It's because of our donations.
